Govt Launches “Apna Meter, Apni Reading” Power Smart App to Ensure Transparent Electricity Billing
The Government of Pakistan has officially launched a new mobile application called “Apna Meter, Apni Reading”, aimed at putting power back in the hands of electricity consumers. This smart initiative empowers users to submit their own electricity meter readings, helping to eliminate overbilling, incorrect readings, and billing disputes.

What is the “Apna Meter, Apni Reading” App?
Developed by the Power Division under the leadership of Minister Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, the app allows consumers to upload a clear photo of their electricity meter reading on a designated date each month. This reading, submitted by the user, will be used to generate that month’s electricity bill — overriding any subsequent reading by the power company.
This ensures more accurate, timely, and consumer-driven billing.

Why This App is a Game-Changer
Overbilling and estimated readings have been common complaints among electricity consumers. The new app aims to eliminate these issues by introducing a transparent, photo-based system. This is especially helpful for subsidised users, such as those consuming under 200 units per month.
A small misreading could push their usage to 201 units, instantly removing them from the subsidised slab — causing their bill to jump from Rs. 2,330 to over Rs. 8,000.

Looking Ahead: Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)

This move will require an estimated $3 billion investment and will benefit more than 30 million electricity consumers. The goal is to digitize and modernize the entire electricity billing ecosystem.

“If someone misses the exact meter reading date, i.e., the 28th of every month, will the meter reader still come and take a picture to upload, or will they not come at all for users of the Mobile Power Smart app? Please guide me.”
I have register in self reading and uploaded reading on scheduled date but my reading was not mentioned in bill. I have lodged complaint on app but no any useful response.
